Introducing Kate

Kate Morris brings a wealth of diverse experience to her role as DYW School Coordinator for Fortrose Academy. Over the years, her career has taken her from tractor driving during harvest and shifts in a local church café, to working as part of a design team on bridges and theatres for consulting engineers. Alongside her professional journey, Kate is also a parent to six children, a role she has loved and learned a great deal from. She is most inspired when she sees people stepping out of their comfort zones, taking on challenges, and doing the things that scare them.

What Kate Loves About Being a DYW School Coordinator

For Kate, one of the most rewarding aspects of being a School Coordinator is showcasing the many opportunities available to young people in the Highlands today. She enjoys being part of a team that inspires students to see their potential, while helping to connect them with local employers and experiences that bring learning to life.

Excitement for the New Academic Year

Looking ahead, Kate is especially excited about the opportunities to run events that connect employers and young people. She believes these events play a crucial role in inspiring pupils and helping them see the breadth of career pathways available in the region.

Kate’s Journey: #NoWrongPath

After leaving school, Kate went on to study civil engineering, building a career in the sector before later becoming heavily involved in the charitable sector. Her career path has been varied, but each step has taught her valuable lessons - most importantly, the importance of being flexible and viewing challenges as opportunities to think differently and grow.

Advice for Her Younger Self

Reflecting on her journey, Kate’s advice is simple but powerful: things don’t always turn out how you expect, but failures are rarely as bad as they seem. What matters most is resilience - never give up, but get up and go again.
