Meet Louise Taylor, DYW School Coordinator for Nairn Academy
25 September 2024
Introducing Louise Taylor
Louise Taylor has been a DYW School Coordinator at Nairn Academy for a year now. As a busy mum of two young boys, Louise is well-versed in all things Bluey and Star Wars! Outside of work, she enjoys crafts and is constantly challenging herself to learn new skills. Sometimes her projects work out, sometimes they don’t—but she loves the process of trying something new. Louise finds inspiration in both her family and her ongoing pursuit of creativity.
What Louise Loves About Being a DYW School Coordinator
Louise enjoys the freedom to bring the skills she’s acquired in various roles into the school environment. Combining her past experience with the needs of students and teachers, she thrives on tailoring her work to what suits Nairn Academy best. Whether she’s creating events for young people or connecting with employers and businesses, Louise values the flexibility and creativity her role offers. For her, it’s all about finding dynamic ways to inspire young people and helping them see the wide range of careers opportunities on their doorstep.
Excitement for the New Academic Year
Louise is looking forward to continuing her work with the teachers and employers she connected with last year. At the same time, she’s excited about forging new partnerships and developing fresh ideas. Her goal is to create engaging, fun, and innovative experiences for students that broaden their horizons and help them think seriously about their futures.
Louise’s Journey: #NoWrongPath
After leaving school, Louise started her career as a lifeguard at the local swimming pool. Unsure of which path to take, she later moved to Aberdeen to study professional cookery at college and worked in the hospitality industry for several years. Along the way, she held various jobs, from being a baker to working as a barista and supporting children with learning difficulties in a residential school. While her career path may not have been conventional, Louise believes that every role she’s had has taught her valuable lessons that she now applies in her work as a DYW School Coordinator. For Louise, there’s no "right" path—only the one that’s right for you.
Advice for Her Younger Self
Louise’s advice to her younger self is to be less concerned about what others expect and to follow her passions. She emphasises the importance of doing what feels meaningful to you rather than trying to live up to others expectations.
Through her role at DYW, Louise aims to instill this message in young people, showing them that no matter where their journey starts, they have the potential to build a future that excites them.
