Introducing Pamela Comery
Pamela Comery joined the workforce at just 16 years old, meaning she’s been working for nearly three decades. A proud mother of three, two of her children have already moved on to university and college, while one is still at school. Always eager to keep her mind sharp, Pamela decided to learn the harp after reading that picking up a musical instrument in middle age can help stave off dementia. Her curiosity, sense of humour, and lifelong love of learning continue to inspire her.

What Pamela Enjoys About Being a DYW School Coordinator
As a brand-new DYW School Coordinator, Pamela is most excited about the opportunity to work closely with schools to help young people engage with the workforce. She believes there’s something for everyone when it comes to careers and is looking forward to helping students discover their own paths. For Pamela, the most rewarding aspect of the role will be supporting students as they navigate the transition from school to work, showing them that there are a wealth of opportunities waiting for them right here on our doorstep.

Looking Ahead to the New Academic Year
Pamela is enthusiastic about getting to know the schools she’s working with and starting to plan a range of activities tailored to their needs. She’s impressed with the ideas that have already been shared by the schools and is excited to collaborate with both students and teachers. With everyone keen to get involved, she’s eager to help shape a programme that engages young people and gives them the confidence to explore different career options.

Pamela’s Journey: #NoWrongPath
Pamela left school and started temping while she figured out what she wanted to do with her life. Surprisingly, she found that she really enjoyed temp work—it allowed her to gain valuable experience while working with a variety of employers. From short-term roles to more extended positions, temping taught Pamela that she loved public-facing jobs and interacting with people. This early career experience laid the foundation for the skills and confidence she has today.

Advice for Her Younger Self
Pamela’s advice to her younger self would be to keep working hard, even when something comes easily. She’s learned that effort and dedication are key to improving and succeeding. Above all, she would remind her younger self not to worry too much—everyone eventually finds their feet.

Pamela is looking forward to using her diverse career experience to help young people see that there’s no single path to success. She’s excited to help students in Alness, Invergordon, and Tain discover their own unique routes into the world of work.
