Introducing Sandy MacKenzie
Sandy MacKenzie brings over 40 years of professional experience to his role as a DYW School Coordinator at Dingwall Academy. Married and a father of four, Sandy is a passionate runner, an avid football fan, and a lifelong supporter of Celtic FC. He’s also deeply interested in politics, although his active involvement has shifted in recent years. Sandy’s greatest inspiration comes from those closest to him, finding motivation from his family and friends.

What Sandy Loves About Being a DYW School Coordinator
Though only new in this role, Sandy is captivated by the dynamic environment of Dingwall Academy. He’s struck by the dedication and commitment of the staff and students, describing the experience as a world away from his own school days. For Sandy, it’s about making a small, positive difference in a setting filled with challenges and ambitions.

Excitement for the New Academic Year
Sandy is particularly enthusiastic about working with Dingwall Academy’s Future Focus group to develop an innovative business idea, an exciting venture that brings together creativity and practical experience. He’s eager to see where this collaborative project will lead and hopes it will inspire students to consider new paths for their futures.

Sandy’s Journey: #NoWrongPath
Sandy left school wanting to become a PE teacher, though his path evolved in unexpected ways. Throughout his career, he’s learned two essential lessons: the importance of believing in your own ability and recognising the value of seeking out knowledge. His advice to students? Ask questions, work hard, and never stop learning.

Advice for His Younger Self
Reflecting on his own career journey, Sandy would tell his younger self that the decisions made at 16, 17, or 18 don’t define your future. Opportunity is endless for those willing to look for it. “Be ambitious,” he says, encouraging young people to set big goals and seize the chances that come their way.

Sandy’s story is a testament to the importance of embracing opportunities and remaining adaptable. In his role with DYW, he hopes to inspire students at Dingwall Academy to trust their instincts, explore new paths, and stay open to all the possibilities their futures hold.
