About the role:
Thinking about life after school or perhaps a change in career? Maybe you enjoy fixing things or prefer being outdoors and doing hands-on practical work? Perhaps you are looking for an opportunity to learn a new skill? This Apprenticeship Programme offers you the chance to earn whilst you learn new skills.
This is a 4-year multi-craft (electrical and mechanical) programme, a combination of college academic study and work-based learning with approximately 18 months in college and 30 months in a Hydro Power Station or Onshore Wind Farm. You’ll finish college with an NC Electrical and NC Mechanical and after moving to the workplace, you’ll work towards an SVQ Level 3 / SCQF Level 6 in Engineering Maintenance – Multi-Craft Pathway. You will be trained in safety, engineering practice and electrical and mechanical maintenance.
You will be supported throughout your programme by a wide number of colleagues including mentors, Learning and Talent support staff and business operational colleagues. You will be provided with on-the-job training and supported by our academic training partners. Our apprentices attend college full time for the first 18 months of the programme. You will be supported fully during this time.
By the end of your apprenticeship, you will have formal qualifications and accreditations that will offer you the opportunity to build a rewarding and successful career in the energy sector. Sustainability underpins everything we do so we believe in making the most of our most valuable assets - our people - and supporting them to be their best. With a carefully designed development programme, you will have everything you need to progress your SSE career as far as you want to go.
What do I need?
We're looking to recruit the best future talent for our sector – and we know that it’s not all about qualifications. We're more interested in your innate strengths and the qualities you can bring to SSE. You don't need any experience to apply, you just need to:
- Have an interest in the work we do at SSE
- Have an appreciation of our core values, particularly safety and the desire to do well
- Enjoy working as part of a team
- Be interested in engineering and how things work
- Enjoy working outside and with your hands
