Pupils at Dingwall Academy have been gaining invaluable hands-on experience in the construction industry through the Build Your Future Programme 2025, in partnership with Morrison Construction and supported by DYW School Coordinator, Sandy.

This structured programme provided eight pupils with a real-world insight into construction careers, equipping them with essential skills and industry connections. Over the course of several months, pupils engaged in site visits, mock interviews, and career discussions, helping them prepare for their next steps into the sector.

Programme Highlights:

🏗 Industry Insight: Pupils kicked off the programme with an introduction to Morrison Construction, learning about the company, industry roles, and career pathways. A VR session provided an immersive experience of construction sites and operations.

🏗 Site Visits: Pupils visited the Invergordon Blend Centre, witnessing a live construction project and engaging with various professionals on-site, including subcontractors, to explore different trades and roles.

🏗 Career Preparation: Ahead of Scottish Apprenticeship Week, pupils participated in mock interviews with Morrison Construction representatives, receiving real-time feedback on their CVs and interview performance—helping them gain confidence in applying for jobs.

🏗 Final Site Visit & Next Steps: The programme concluded with a return visit to the construction site, where pupils met with recently qualified apprentice Corey and final-year apprentice Olivia. All five pupils in attendance expressed their interest in applying for Morrison’s Apprenticeship Scheme.

As a next step, each pupil will now be matched with work experience opportunities, either directly with Morrison Construction or through its subcontractors—ensuring they continue to build on the skills and knowledge gained throughout the programme.

A huge thank you to Morrison Construction for providing such a valuable experience and to all the professionals who took the time to inspire and support our young people.
